🏯 A Century-Old Legacy in Hakata

Ishimura Manseido’s journey began from 1905, and its commitment to preserving Hakata’s heritage is evident in every corner of the store. “Tsurunoko(鶴乃子)” is their standout and become the classic Fukuoka souvenir.
The second-generation owner of the bakery offered sweets made with sweet potatoes with his ingenuity amid the difficulty of obtaining sugar after the war, and continued to operate with the awareness that “sweets are not a luxury item, but something necessary to fill one’s heart with vitality for tomorrow”.
Signature Sweets: A Taste of Tradition

Tsurunoko (Crane’s Egg)
Ishimura Manseido’s most renowned confection is the “Tsurunoko(鶴乃子)”, an egg-shaped sweet featuring a fluffy marshmallow exterior encasing a rich egg yolk bean paste. This delicacy has been a Hakata favorite for over a century and is often chosen as a souvenir or gift.
Tsurunokonoko
A modern twist on the classic, this dessert layers vanilla ice cream, custard cream, and freshly made marshmallow. Available exclusively at the main store, it’s a must-try for those seeking a unique sweet experience.
🖼️ A Store That Doubles as a Museum

Beyond its delectable offerings, Ishimura Manseido serves as a cultural exhibit. The store showcases traditional wooden molds, vintage promotional materials, and illustrations by Sengai, a renowned Zen monk from the Edo period. These displays provide visitors with a glimpse into the rich history of Hakata’s confectionery arts.
🎎 The Birthplace of White Day
Did you know that Ishimura Manseido is credited with originating “White Day”? In 1978, the store proposed a day for men to reciprocate Valentine’s Day gifts, leading to the establishment of White Day on March 14. This tradition has since become a nationwide celebration in Japan.
✨ Conclusion: A Must-Visit in Fukuoka

Whether you’re exploring Hakata’s historic streets or seeking the perfect souvenir, a visit to this storied confectionery shop promises an unforgettable experience.
Personal Note
- Tsurunokono: Only at the main store, you can enjoy “Tsurunokonoko,” a snack combining fresh marshmallows and ice cream, and delicious green tea. The raw marshmallow has a fluffy yet chunky texture, offering an eating experience unlike anything you have ever had before. The green tea served with the marshmallow is cold brew Yamecha, which is very tasty and has a strong flavor. I highly recommend you try it when you visit here.
